My journey has evolved and gathered momentum over the last decade. I’ve always had a very strong interest in maintaining a healthy emotional state and physical well-being.
In 1999 I decided to enrol in Social Science & Psychology and completed my degree in 2002. However, I found that the psychology was very theory based and lacked what I believe now is the spiritual essence.
During this time I was already training with a personal trainer and fell in love with exercise. I was not brought up in a family that did resistance training but relied more on team sports for fitness. After growing up doing the same team sports as my family, for example tennis, swimming and basketball, I found the challenge of one on one resistance training much more exciting and beneficial for my personal goals at that time.
My thirst for learning more about the human body and behaviour enticed me to enrol in a two-year course in Natural Medicine and Holistic Counselling that would enable more practical, hands-on work, following on from the psychology theories.
In 2004 I completed a post-graduate diploma in Natural Medicine and Holistic Counselling. After completion of 5 years at university I began to do voluntary work at the Prahran Neighbourhood House with troubled adolescents. Along side my voluntary work I also worked at Fitness First full-time in their head office in Richmond doing sales and administration because of my passion for the fitness industry and sheer enjoyment being in the gym atmosphere.
I continued training with a trainer one on one only to discover that I had an injury to my back, a prolapsed disc. This caused me to assess the training I was doing and take notice of the negative impact and stress that machine weights were doing to my body, inside and out. I now know that my back injury was directly a result of incorrect training for a long period of time.
A combination of my personal experience, tertiary education, genuine interest in human behaviour and pure love for meeting new people. I know I can assist people achieve their optimal health potential as I sincerely feel I have found something I love to do!!
